How to choose your wedding date
First choose the season and the day of the week you prefer, and settle the exact date once you know which days the venue and the suppliers you care most about have free. Bear in mind guests who have to travel, bank holidays, the local weather and that Saturdays in high season are usually the most in demand and the most expensive.
Season
Spring and early autumn tend to be the most popular times because of the weather. Summer can be very hot in much of Spain, especially for an outdoor ceremony at midday. Winter offers quieter options that are often more flexible.
Day of the week
Saturday is the most convenient for guests, and so the most in demand. A Friday or a Sunday can open up dates that are already taken on Saturdays; ask the venue whether the price changes.
What to check before deciding
- Which dates the venue you want has free.
- The availability of the suppliers you care most about (photography, catering, music).
- Bank holidays and long weekends: they help people who travel, but push up flight and hotel prices.
- Dates that matter to your families.
- If guests are travelling, the time they need to make arrangements.
Once it's decided
Send a save-the-date as soon as you can, especially to anyone who has to travel. A wedding website with the date and venue, even before it has every detail, is the simplest way for everyone to have it to hand.
