Unplugged wedding ceremony: how to ask

For a phone-free ceremony, say so in advance on the wedding website and remind people just before it starts, with a sign or through whoever is officiating. It works best if you explain why and offer somewhere to share photos afterwards, such as an album with a QR code for the rest of the celebration.

Why ask

So guests are present in the moment, and so the photographer's pictures aren't full of screens and raised arms. There's no need to ban phones for the whole wedding: the ceremony is usually enough.

How to ask

For example: “We'd love to see your faces, not your phones. Please put them away during the ceremony; afterwards, take all the photos you like.”

  • On the wedding website, with a friendly sentence and the reason.
  • A sign at the entrance to the ceremony.
  • A reminder from whoever officiates before it starts.

And afterwards, all the photos

Give them somewhere to share what they take during the rest of the celebration: a shared album with a QR code on the tables gathers everything without WhatsApp groups. Leave the ceremony photos to the photographer.
