Children at the wedding: how to plan for them
First decide whether children are invited and say so clearly on the invitation and the website, naming who is invited. If they are coming, ask in the RSVP how many children and babies each family is bringing, offer a children's menu, book high chairs for babies and plan a table or an activity for the older ones.
Decide and say it
Both options are fine. What causes misunderstandings is not saying. If children aren't invited, the clearest way is to write only the adults' names on the invitation and explain kindly on the website.
If you're only inviting some (family children, for example), tell those families directly.
Know how many are coming
In the RSVP, ask whether each person is an adult, child or baby, and explain which ages count as which. That tells you how many children's menus and high chairs to order.
Menu, table and high chairs
- A simple children's menu: ask the caterer what they offer.
- Babies don't take a seat, but need a high chair next to their parents.
- With several children of similar ages, a children's table near their families.
- With very young children, better next to their parents.
Keep them happy
A table with colouring materials, a play corner or a childminder during the meal let the children enjoy themselves, and their parents too. If you book children's entertainment, mention it on the website so families know.
