What to put on a wedding invitation
A wedding invitation should say who is getting married, when and where, who is invited, and how and by when to RSVP. Everything else (the detailed schedule, getting there, accommodation, gift registry, dress code) fits better on the wedding website, with a link or a QR code on the invitation.
What it must include
- Your names.
- The date and time of the ceremony.
- The ceremony venue and, if different, the reception venue.
- Who is invited, by name.
- How to RSVP and the deadline.
- Your wedding website's address.
Naming your guests
Writing the name of each person invited avoids misunderstandings: it makes clear whether the guest can bring someone and whether children are included, without having to explain it.
What works better on the website
An invitation has little space and can't be changed once sent. A website can: keep the details that may change or need explaining there.
- The schedule for the day.
- Getting there and parking.
- Accommodation.
- Gift registry.
- Dress code.
- Frequently asked questions.
Paper, email or WhatsApp
All three work, and they can be combined: paper for family and a digital invitation for everyone else. If the invitation is digital, a personal link for each guest lets them RSVP without typing their details.
